Niche for under €30? Lattafa's Liam says: "easy".
I noticed the Liam (as an avowed Lattafa fan) from the release, but somehow I didn't think it was worth buying. Oh, how stupid I was. The association with Gris Charnel Eau de Parfum or Gris Charnel Extrait had messed it up a bit for me. Too dark and somehow masculine for me, even if that doesn't often affect me. Here it put me off...

But are the fragrances similar? Yes.
Do I think Liam is better? Also yes, and a clear one at that.
In a nutshell, you could say that I miss the dark and masculine quality that Gris Charnel Eau de Parfum has for me.

The Liam is much more vanilla and - even if no coconut is listed, I think many agree that it can be clearly smelled. Nevertheless, it is not a pina colada breaker for the summer, but has something cool and fresh, and at the same time so wonderfully creamy and melt-in-the-mouth. The tea brings a fine, but not too brute spiciness with the cardamom. The fig has a slight hint of fruit and is not too sweet here either. Despite the present sweetness, it does not have a jam-like, sticky sweetness. More like freshly sliced figs. Together with iris and the listed base, the result is a creamy-powdery, sweet-vanilla, fresh-sweet fragrance that I find ideal for spring. For an admittedly very small price, you get a wonderfully unobtrusive everyday fragrance that can also shine in the office without getting on your nerves. At the same time, however, it has an impressive longevity and sillage and suits every wearer; I don't recognize any clear feminine or masculine orientation.

Somehow, Liam manages to combine the best of everything with ease.
At niche level.
He can do that. And he's damn good at it.

This will be the creamy Oriental in my collection ...
I have developed an interest in the oriental fragrances from Lattafa. Generally well reviewed here at EssenceVitae for very reasonable prices and many offerings in the direction of my preferences, oriental, sweet, spicy, woody, leathery. Exactly my playground if you want to try out different things blindly without plunging into financial disaster.

The Liam appealed to me because of the fragrance pyramid, the positive rating and the reviews here on EssenceVitae. So I bought a small bottling in the souk, which is the subject of this review.

The Liam is classified as a sweet-creamy unisex fragrance here at EssenceVitae. The rating for the fragrance is a very good 8.4/10 points for the fragrance, which was only released in 2023. In the "Similar" section, Gris Charnel Eau de Parfum is listed, which is around 10 times the price. In fact, both perfumes have what I find a very interesting combination of fig-cardamom-black tea in the top note of the fragrance pyramid.

The entire fragrance pyramid for #Liam looks like this:
Top notes: black tea, cardamom, fig
Heart notes: labdanum, iris, vetiver
Base notes: vanilla, sandalwood, tonka bean, patchouli

So let's get to bottling ...

When you sniff it, which is always what you smell when the atomization is still incomplete, you can already recognize a nice, sweetish-fruity note. Not classically citrusy-fresh, but that's how it's listed.

When sprayed on (full aerosolization), the sweet, slightly fruity fig comes first, not as green-tart as I expected. The spicy cardamom quickly follows. Black tea is rather subordinate from my point of view. The top note is by no means sparkling, but rather round and creamy, as I would expect from the heart note.

Maybe the heart note just takes over very quickly? Very nice and balsamic, and creamy again. Perhaps this is due to the iris, which is not only floral but also creamy? I like to smell past the vetiver. A sweetish note from the top note remains or develops anew. Very pronounced without being overpowering. The fragrance can actually stay like this.

But let's wait for the base note. Interestingly, the fragrance feels stronger and more intense in the first hour instead of receding. Sandalwood is the first thing I notice, but vanilla and tonka bean are not far away either. This oriental perfume base develops, which I appreciate so much. Patchouli is still a little way off and, in my opinion, tends to remain in the background to round things off.

I didn't have a hint of coconut, as previously reported. I think the creaminess comes more from the iris in combination with labdanum.

Longevity is good in my opinion. I can't say anything about the sillage. I would rate it as average. For me, sillage is actually more of an annoying characteristic of a perfume. That's why it suits me well.

I can't say anything about the bottle. I only have one bottle in a mini atomizer for now.

Yes, the Liam is actually more for cool and temperate seasons. I share this "EssenceVitae opinion".

Summary
After this fragrance experience, it is quite likely that my bottling will develop into a full-blown 100 ml bottle. This would be the first decidedly creamy oriental in my collection. I can confirm both the classification as sweet and creamy and the good fragrance rating here on EssenceVitae. In view of the moderate price, I don't feel guilty in the sense of "yet another new bottle in the cosmetics cupboard". On the other hand, Liam is not just a dupe. In my opinion, it never looks cheap. If you want, you can of course still make your own direct comparison with Gris Charnel Eau de Parfum.

Bang for your buck!
Here you get a very finely tuned fragrance for a small price, which is hard to beat in terms of price / performance.

I wouldn't describe the fragrance as unique. That would be nonsense, because it is obviously inspired by BDK's Gris Chanel. But it could also be a good designer fragrance. I also associate it with the old batches of La Nuit de L'homme by YSL. Maybe because of the cardamom?

Either way, a heavenly creamy, pleasantly enveloping, sweet yet fresh little water that I can't get enough of.

I like to wear it as a date scent for warm summer nights, or simply as a daily for the office. It always works!

Sillage and durability for the price TOP! In my opinion, the fragrance experience is even better than the 10 times more expensive BDK.

From my point of view a definite blind buy candidate!

Something different. A niche for little money
Liam by Lattafa is an extraordinary perfume. I've never smelled anything like it. If you ask me what it smells like in 3 words, I would answer: fig-milky-tea

The fig is clearly there, but it's very different from a Fico di Amalfi or a Philosykos. There, the fig is fruity, fresh and sweet. Here in Liam, the fig is very tart and almost "smoky" in combination with the tea. Smoky, huh???? Yes, the opening can definitely be confusing.

When the Liam has dried on the skin for 30 minutes, it becomes creamy and milky and the tea comes into its own. Nevertheless, everything is not sweet.

Guys, I'm being honest with you: This is not for playboys to give you the maximum rizz. No sweetness, no playfulness. As I said, it smells good, but don't expect women to go crazy for it. So who is it suitable for? First of all, it costs nothing, you could say it's almost a gift. And secondly, it smells very unique, there's nothing comparable in this price range. So if you already have a perfume collection and fancy something new for little money, then check out the Liam.

Gris Charnel dupe...
I hear that this Liam is a dupe for the Gris Charnel extrait...
Anyways, this is a UNISEX fairly masculine scent, be warned!
This has really grown on me! at first spray I get the spiced tea and fig- earthy fresh scent, then my nose smells a sharpness from the vetiver, and the scent turns more powdery, with the iris floral peeking through. I can smell the cardamom spice throughout the scent... similar to chai tea... as it dries down, it is sweeter with the vanilla, smooth tea drydown and I smell the fresh tea scent at least 8 hours. Perfect to wear on a cooler day. Love this!

I sprayed this once on my hand and am still catching whiffs after a night out and a shower. Creamy spicy (not chai) black tea. Awesome.
