Sage in wooded bay
Sometimes there are such lucky strikes! I go to an owner-operated perfumery in a small provincial town on the Rhine and find a very interesting 'niche shelf' next to all kinds of mass-produced goods: Not big, not encyclopaedic, but funny and tastefully arranged. A few Penhaligons, a few Berdoues, a few old Guerlain classics, and just a few merchants from Venice. I tested this one because the name (Dalmatian sage, not Dalmatian sage) appealed to me biographically: as students we sometimes made trips to Dalmatia with our professor and combined scientific field studies with trips on the Mediterranean Sea. The professor had a fishing boat converted into a makeshift yacht, and we sailed around with it as sailors. I associate many wonderful experiences of nature and the senses with these journeys: Jumps into the sea from the roof of the cutter instead of a morning shower, freshly picked figs, chard vegetables, fish bought directly in the morning from the fisherman, just caught, even descaled and gutted and fried in the cabin only with olive oil, salt and freshly picked rosemary. These were simple yet perfect pleasures, despite lovesickness and despite the Balkan wars 50 kilometres further on.
I got to know Dalmatian sage in two ways during these journeys: Picked and chewed like chewing gum as a remedy for a gum wound recommended by the professor, and as sage honey, bought fresh from the beekeeper on the side of a country road. In my - presumably transfigured - memory it has become the never again achieved model of the perfect honey taste.
The fragrance successfully balances innovation and originality with a classic, almost fougery summer scent Summer Scent. The citric note provides a lasting freshness, but does not dominate, but rather appears integrated into light and medium green, woody, moderately summery notes. Sage provides the special twist and is also good for the gums and the care of memories. Anchoring in a wooded bay, water, wind and trees provide freshness despite the summer heat. Ascent through herb meadows to a monastery on the mountain.
