Shades of forest green and hues of woody brown
Après is probably one of the... Nah, the most complex perfume of Ellis Brooklyn's lineup. I do have to say I'm usually not a fan of certain notes in this perfume (whiskey, woods and suede) which is why I placed it at the end of the box where it was going to be one of the last I'd be trying. I was wrong and overall pleasantly surprised by it.

At first spray, it smells like a deep canadian pine forest, burried beneath glistening snow. A mix of deep greens and hues of woody browns. It's a fragrance fit for winter and the heart of winter only. I really don't see myself wearing it at any other moment. Spices are really prominent on my skin. I recognized saffron and cardamom immediately and although I'm a bit unfamiliar with juniper berries, I could smell an accord of fresh spiciness probably from this note. Whiskey, suede and praline combine to give off a sweet woody and leathery accord. The smell sometimes shifts into a wood shaving scent as if I were sharpening a wooden pencil, but there's a sweetness in it that keep it from going the wrong way. The drydown is mainly woody vanilla although the patchouli gives it a darker, earthy scent.

Since I'm not a woody perfume gal, it won't make it in my collection, but I'm quite happy I got to try this one. It's complex, has a lot of depth and is probably the most niche one out of Ellis Brooklyn. It's not a blind-buy as there are many ways the perfume could turn out wrong, but it's still a really beautiful fragrance for those who love woody, sweet accords.

Top note shocker
Unfortunately, I had to wash this fragrance off after 30 minutes.
I sprayed it immediately on my arm to test it, which turned out to be a mistake...
The top note made me feel extremely nauseous. For this reason, I won't rate it, as my rating would certainly not do the fragrance justice. The notes were very promising... Cardamom, saffron, praline, violet, musk and vanilla... it sounded tempting.
After spraying it on, I was shocked, as I unfortunately had the following association...
A corpse in a suede jacket, drunk on smoky bourbon whisky, ends up in the emergency room where it is disinfected with iodine.
I don't notice any other fragrances because the strong leathery smell of alcohol displaces all the sweet notes (e.g. vanilla, violet, spices).
Too bad... unfortunately, Après doesn't work for me at all and will be released for testing

Lovely Woodsy Scent
Après first caught my attention when it distinctly reminded me of one of my best friends' signatures while casually browsing. She wears Nasomatto Baraonda, which is a woodsy-spicy-boozy masterpiece. I wouldn't say these two are crazy similar, but Après does offer a similar vibe - great since I love Baraonda but don't want to wear my friend's signature! Après is also a bit more affordable, although the projection and longevity leave a bit to be desired. I definitely find myself having to do 4+ sprays to have any hope of it lasting a full day, and usually by the end of the day it has lost its projection.

Après has a woodsy-spicy base, slightly masculine, but balanced to be reasonably unisex by a bit of sweetness in the vanilla, praline and perhaps also bourbon notes. I think it's great on a woman if worn with confidence! The florals don't really jump out at me, but after a few wears I really started noticing something menthol-y and green like fresh pine needles and sap. I could also draw similarities to Maison Martin Margiela's By The Fireplace, which I love as well. The sweet base of Après feels similar, but it swaps the smokey burning wood of By The Fireplace for those greener, fresh wood notes. I'd say Après lasts longer than By the Fireplace too, and would be my preference to wear in most cases.

Après is a nice combo of cosy but bold - it worked for me when I wanted to settle down at home on a cold night, but also when I wanted to feel confident at work or out with friends. It's definitely more of an autumn-winter vibe, but because it's not very heavy or overwhelming I would happily wear it year-round. I love this fragrance and think it's one of the best of the Ellis Brooklyn lineup! Just wish it had a touch better performance!

Beautiful woody smell
I've been exploring a lot of woodsy smells lately and, if you're looking for a classic "woodsy" fragrance,
this one may be the very best I've found yet! The opening is sharp, but not overly so. I immediately notice the resinous pine and cedar notes, but also a slight boozy bourbon note.

As it dries down, you catch a bit more floral along with the sweetness of praline and vanilla. This is not a gourmand or floral though! It remains a true woody scent throughout.

I notice that cedar is the aroma that lasts the longest, which seems common for woodsy smells. I love this perfume!

For me, this leans very slightly masculine, but I would still wear it as a woman on days where I just want to live in an enchanted fairy forest (most days, if I'm being honest).

A beautifully spicy, woody opening. Quickly mellows to a vanilla and patchouli base (nearly identical to the BBW Vanilla + Patchouli candle)

A darker and more smoky version of Maison louis marie no4. It feels pretty middle of the road for a fall fragrance. Expected more from notes
