Mighty musk
This is a fresh, strong musk reinforced by amber and vanilla
It instantly reminded me of the disrupted Lancome hypnose men. Only not as powdery in dry down.
Bergamot, cedar and two types of amber make it as mighty as Hypnose men

Differences: instead of patchouli this contains vanilla
Instead of lavender it contains thyme and cedar leaves.
Amazing quality from Sterling!

So damned well rounded
This is definitely a masterpiece.Xerjoff mentions as source of inspiration Moscow,Russia. Subtle, elegant tiny clouds of caramel ,strawberry and peach along with soft smell of leather, not a dirty leather but a very elegant brand new sexy leather note gets you first. The fruits and caramel step back in the background to reveal a beautiful rose that is deliciously served with labdanum ,ginger and amber
The leather with the rose and resins allow space to a soft oud with a sophisticated cloud of benzoin and a bitter sweet vanilla
Which provides the eau de parfum a smokey medicinal sweetness. All the above dance of notes so beautifully choreographed to get to the end of the journey, get to Moscow rose and bourbon vanilla with soft leather and soft oud in glorious benzoin veil.
Hallelujah

Bitter sweet Mystery
When you spray it on it is lush, dense and mysterious. The honey nuisance along with the precious lavender add sweetness to this thick peppery violets' foliage.
As simple as it can get analysed the above notes hit you like a laser beam. It is a sexy but authoritative woodsy eau de parfum and I wish it stayed like that for as long as it lasts.
But on the drydown it gets a bit cloying. Perhaps the tonka bean is synthetic and it brings you memories of a soft Drakkar Noir in the end which the perfume composition could have avoided with a good quality tonka or amber.

Even more addictive than the 1978 edp.
Maybe I am not the most suitable person to write a review on this eau de parfum 'cause I love the stuff so much, I even have an older bottle of the edt which I bought from ebay . It is definitely unisex and opulent, not sweet in any case amber fragrance. I keep thinking of vanilla nuances in here, but it is not in the list of notes, so maybe is a vanilla facet from opoponax or benzoin. This is so close to the original, initial 1878 edp and perhaps even tighter anf more rounded.
What you get: a freshness of the citrusy fruits and gorgeous resins that match the amber beautifully like a work of great art! Myrr, Sweet Myrr, olibanum and benzoin give the parfum this sensual, woody oriental character you either adore or hate. I adore the longevity of this parfum, the authenticity of it and it's austere nature. I mean Barbie would not wear Opium. Opium is a trip to spirituality and acceptance of the sensual wotld. Opium is a scent that touches so much your inner world that it becomes what it says and you cannot live your life without wearing Opium!
Only for authentic, not compromising people is this fragrance sent straight to them by the gods.

Not dark enough to be goth!
Lalique does not only make perfumes. Mainly Lalique makes objects made of glass.
To make a tribute to the artist Rene Lalique whose art was carved glass, they called perfumer Natalie Larson to create a scent that would be vetiver focusing as a trubute to the company's crystal cube bottle of perfumed black ink for pens. The ink bottle with vetiver perfumed ink is still available to purchase!
This is the background of this launch by Lalique.
Knowing this before you try the fragrance might help you apreciate culture first before you apreciate the fragrance!
Is that possible?
Probably not! Anyway, the thing is you see the vetiver note has not been so much In demand before this launch in 2006. Vetiver here, Vetiver there and as it used to be an old school note, more and more people would like to be to know vetiver!

Other than that stop shouting about the projection. And the longevity. Yes, this is rather a skin scent that lasts about five hours but it is an intimate scent and there are times we need a scent like that. For office perfume it is perfect. Descent, scent of cleaningness without a huge trail. Some perfumes are made for the wearer to appreciate and not the witness.
I do not understand people who wear a perfume that will be noticed by many!
For god's sake perfumery creations should be made initially to please the wearers and not the crowd around the wearer.
Mostly I get the cypress note and the vetiver which is dense and so green.
If again you are not a fan of natural essence and are mainly moved by synthetic perfumery combined with natural essence you can pick the latest launch of this Encre Noire a l'extreme.
