Silly eagles don't understand.
The eagle flies in again,
and has a full hand of samples,
that he scammed on his last foray,
the others never get any of it,
too Because the woods, they are "Kinam",
even if Taha says something completely different.
But the eyes, they don't think,
they are exclusively in the copy-paste trip.
Where is your wood procurer? Because I need to have a word with the man in the house,
this can't go on for long,
we're starting to have a problem now.
Where is your eagle family? Are they still allowed to take part in everything,
or do you have to tell them "No !" again,
and they claim your time for themselves? Because these woods are so rare for you,
you fall apart them & don't take care of your child.
Greed, oh yes, it sometimes makes you blind.
Greed, oh yes, it sometimes makes you blind.

Several oud years later and I am still as fascinated as I was on day 1, because there are always fragrances as beautiful as these that come my way. This makes me all the sadder about the steady disappearance of this raw material, which I value so highly and whose highest quality is unfortunately becoming increasingly rare due to financial interests, i.e. greed & other reasons.

Hikayat, which is based in Malaysia, initially launched in 2016 under the name "OudHub" and, as you can see from the name, focused on natural raw materials such as eaglewood/oud. In 2020, they came out under the new name "Hikayat" and have since released several oils, attars & perfumes on the market with oud in focus They stand for "purity, quality & hospitality", and this is evident in both their work and their customer support.

Pewaris Extrait de Parfum (Malaysian for "successor") is the offspring of their first fragrance Perintis Extrait de Parfum & a collaboration with Taha Syed, the founder of Agar Aura (my favorite oud brand), who has already lent a loyal, helping hand in the early days of Hikayat. And this is immediately apparent in this work, as the quality & style of the oud clearly speaks for him.

According to Taha & Hikayat, the oud used here is very similar to Vietnamese oud, and almost looks as if Agar Aura's Vietnan Special K has been used.
What does the K stand for? K is short for Kinam, the top class of ouds, and while some Areej Le Doré fans would probably associate Taha's "Kinam" directly with genuine Kinam, which is actually not at all correlated in terms of price to the ouds he uses, Taha's ouds are all about the similarities they have to Kinam. In other words, he offers top quality at a top price! But said fans are apparently only guided by names & fragrance pyramids, it seems to me. A little look at the actual, short product description provided by the brands or researching real Kinam prices is always worthwhile.

But I'll save you that really BIG trouble :
This oud-focused perfume starts like a real Agar Aura oud starts: green, with cool minty tones & medicinal-bitter. A herbal herbaceousness is added, which could come from lavender and fits perfectly with the green atmosphere, as well as the earthy oakmoss & patchouli notes (the latter not yet listed here, but included according to Hikayat. I will have it corrected soon), which follow & make the whole thing almost seem like a kind of green natural fougère with a clear oud touch.
The slight sweetness of the oud & barely noticeable, natural vanillin (which also needs to be added here) is very finely balanced by the fresh tones of the green notes & grapefruit, and keeps the medicinal, bitter & spicy side of the oud, which usually overwhelms Western, untrained noses, from being too dominant.
Another parallel I can draw here to Agar Aura would be the green oud perfume Malayaku, where I also perceived minty oud, bitter tea, balsamic-bright incense & a slight sweetness. It also contains butterfly lily/ginger lily, which is listed here as an ornamental ginger and contributes to the sweetness, but as I said, it is only a small accent in this rather bright construct. The omission of the dark smoke from the malayaku also makes it much more accessible as a whole, to my advantage.
As if the oud wasn't woody enough, it has been complemented by an equally woody cedar in the base, which I really like.
Fortunately, I can't detect the coffee, because I neither like it nor would it have gone well with it. The same applies to the rose geranium & butterfly lily, which are not clear, which could possibly move some designer florists to tears, but for me with joy rather than sadness or anger.

So here, all the directions I love (oud, fougère & freshness) have been combined into a blend so smooth & precious that I couldn't take my hand off my nose from start to finish.
Unlike Areej Le Doré or other brands, where sometimes a lot of deer musk, oud or other is promised & highly advertised, but in reality other things overrun the whole thing inharmoniously or irrelevantly, Hikayat keeps its promise: Beautiful, complex oud from start to finish. And that makes them a tremendous value for money compared to their competition, offering Agar Aura oud quality & complexity for half the price: that's incredible when you consider how much more Agar Aura & other oud-concentrated houses of this caliber cost ! Incidentally, the other Hikayat works, which also clearly contain oud, cost significantly less than this one did at the time.
If you want really beautiful ouds without having to spend huge sums of money on them, Hikayat is the right place for you!
I am rarely so impressed & impressed (because of all my tests), hence the exceptional rating of 8.5, which I have only given 10 times in all my tests so far.
Better too strict & honest than too dishonest-nice or nasty.
For me, only the fragrance counts, and no external factor - I stay true to myself.

With thanks to Floyd !
