As luck would have it..
After being enchanted by the "XJ 1861 Naxos | XerJoff" by Xerjoff, it was clear to me:
I absolutely had to explore more highlights from this renowned brand.

So I grabbed a 4-piece sample kit, consisting of "Oud Stars - Alexandria II (Parfum) | XerJoff", Accento and "Join The Club - 40 Knots | XerJoff", to send my olfactory senses on an exciting journey. However, the fourth free spot in my sample kit remained a mystery to me - I chose the Tony Iommi without giving it much thought. I had never heard of this fragrance before or even looked at the scent directions. In short, it served as a "gap filler".

Full of anticipation, I waited a few days and could hardly wait to discover these highly acclaimed fragrances. As soon as the parcel carrier rang, I already had the first sample in my hand. But to be honest, my initial reaction was rather subdued - perhaps my expectations had simply been set too high. I sat there, surrounded by Accento, "Oud Stars - Alexandria II (Parfum) | XerJoff" and "Join The Club - 40 Knots | XerJoff", and thought slightly humbly: "Yes, these are beautiful fragrances, but none of them have really blown me away yet."

So now it was the turn of the last sample, which I wasn't expecting much from anyway, as it only served as a filler. I unpacked it and sprayed it on - WHOAAA!!!!!

From the very first spritz of this fragrance, I was overwhelmed by its intensity and depth. The top note instantly transported me to a bath of rum with overripe passion fruit in it.

After about 10 minutes, I got out of this "rum bath", dried myself off and enjoyed a delicious passion fruit cocktail, to which the bartender had added a small sip of the finest rum. At the same time, a pleasant leather note developed, accompanied by a hint of caramel.

When the long day at the "fragrance pool" finally came to an end, a dark, but at the same time sweet and very warm caramel note remained on the skin.

I am always fascinated by how the fragrance constantly evolves over the course of the day, constantly revealing new facets of its identity. However, it is unmistakably Tony Iommi at every stage.

In the end, I found my favorite fragrance in a very unexpected way.
Xerjoff's Tony Iommi absolutely impressed me with its incomparable complexity and sensual depth and will certainly always have a permanent place in my fragrance collection. This fragrance is a true masterpiece that must be experienced to understand its magic. If you haven't tried this fragrance, you've missed out. Unique!

Love at second sight
Now that I've owned the Tony Iommi Monkey Special for a year and it's still my absolute favorite fragrance, I have to dedicate my first review to it at this point.

Before I was allowed to smell it for the first time, the fragrance notes really appealed to me. A passion fruit that has fallen into rum and has been mopped up with leather. This is joined by sensual vanilla, caramel and a hint of cinnamon.
So it was clear that I had to try this fragrance.
I was finally able to test the fragrance in a perfumery. After spraying it on for the first time, I was disappointed. Unfortunately, I don't like the fragrance. Yes, it is something special that I have never smelled before. But it was not a fragrance I was convinced of.
Inwardly, I had given up on the fragrance and it was clear to me that it wasn't going to happen, no matter how exciting I found the composition of the fragrance notes.

A few weeks later, I was back in a perfumery and there it was again. The Tony Iommi and I decided to give it another chance. So I put the fragrance on my wrist and waited. Another disappointment at first. Then, on the way back to the car, came the surprise. I had a scent in my nose the whole time, which was so unique and so beautiful.
That was the moment when this fragrance became my absolute favorite.

As the fragrance progressed, it always showed a different face. You never had the feeling that the fragrance stayed the same, but kept changing its radiance.

As already mentioned, I have never smelled a fragrance that even remotely resembles Tony Iommi. The opening begins with a wonderful rum note and a very fruity, sweet passion fruit that complements the rum perfectly. Later on, a leather accord with a hint of cinnamon is added.
However, the fragrance never smells the same and has many different phases that can be perceived throughout the day.

The longevity is outstanding. After applying it tomorrow, you could still smell it late in the evening. And all this with just 2 sprays.

I don't need to say much about the bottle. The presentation is Xerjoff like, just what you would expect in this price range and the bottle is really beautifully designed.

All in all, I can summarize that this fragrance is a really great dark and sweet fragrance for autumn/winter and for going out.

Today we have rum pot
Tony Iommi. Guitarist of Black Sabbath. I've known that since I came across the perfume. But never mind. I'm interested in the scent, not in what a musician smells like. They smell different from what your head imagines anyway. It's like books. Books that are made into films. Nothing fits, everything is different.

The first time I came across Iommi was in a forum. In a "foreign forum", so to speak. Someone had put on the Tony and wrote that it was a masterpiece, i.e. the fragrance. That made me curious. i bought a 5ml bottling. I had already bought a lot. It all started when someone wrote that you were constantly being approached by women. And I asked and was recommended a fragrance. Curious as I was, I signed up to EssenceVitae and bought it. It was my first fragrance, apart from "Before". Yes, it smelled quite nice, it was expensive too, but somehow feminine. Too feminine for me. I preferred not to smell like that. Many others came. Not because I wanted to be approached by women, my interest in fragrances was (re)awakened. I didn't like any of them. Actually, some did, but not enough to make me say "wow".

Then came Iommi. And I'll paraphrase it briefly and youngster-like: "GEIL!!! Simply AWESOME!!!"
I've never been so blown away by a fragrance before. That's what they say. The one with the stool. I don't understand why no one has written a review yet. Well, I'll just do that. I'll try anyway. I'm not a professional review writer. Three flushers, one on the left, one on the right, one in the middle. Wait a minute, don't get in the car straight away. Not that I have to blow. I'm already getting a hint of rum. I like it. I even like it a lot. On paper or on my wrist, I smell a "cold ashtray" note. Not strong, but there. It bothered me at first. Not anymore. Maybe it's what someone here wrote in a statement as a "drunk on the pub floor" scent. Never mind. It's part of it, you can only smell it if you put your nose directly on it anyway. And if you're on a date, you can use it as a "wicked" scent.

The longevity is excellent. Sillage, how should I describe it, it doesn't get on anyone's nerves.
Dry Down, to be an expert, the Iommi opens with a wonderful rum pot, goes over into a delicious (the Austrians please read over the word delicious) passion fruit scent, but not sticky. Lasts all day.
I've probably forgotten something important, never mind. The scent is simply terrific. Different. Grandiosely different. If I could only have one fragrance, it would be Iommi. That will have to do, raving is not really my thing. I had to make an exception here. Try it, it's worth a thousand words.

Again and again on Fridays
Imagine you meet someone new at work, you've heard a lot about this new colleague beforehand and his reputation precedes him. You get to know the new colleague and it turns out that you absolutely can't smell each other. After the first few contacts, you are completely at a loss and ask yourself - and this is supposed to be the high-flyer everyone is talking about? Not only that, but the things he says come across as downright unappealing. Unfortunately, you have no other choice at work and so you inevitably get to know each other better. After a while, you notice your first sympathies and you both seem to feel the same way. After a while, it becomes a firm tradition that you spend a long lunch break together on Fridays and treat yourselves to something delicious. Before you know it, you're the best man at his wedding.

A similar relationship has developed between the Tony Iommi Monkey Special and me. I like unusual fragrances, creative creations that stand out from the crowd. A long shelf life and a perceptible sillage are just as important to me and an argument to make yourself understand why you don't buy fragrances "off the shelf" and sometimes spend a few more dollars.

I was still at the beginning of my new discovery of this great hobby and perhaps you know that at the beginning you tend to order a little too much with the first bottlings. So I ordered 5ml of the Tony Iommi blind and we both started our journey together, which got off to a really bumpy start.

I was expecting passion fruit in the foreground and only very light sparkling notes. The leather discreetly integrated. In reality, however, it was the other way around. It was a Friday and the first time I tested it on my skin, I was completely baffled. My wife said I stank like a snapdragon and I also thought phew, that's pretty strong. The passion fruit was there, but not very clearly perceptible - it was more in the background. I kept smelling it on my wrist. At least it somehow fits in with a Friday evening when I wanted to have a drink anyway. The relatively strong rum note and the exotic passion fruit notes are joined by an intense leather note. The combination of scents is daring, to put it mildly, and a very wild thing.

The bottle was then left unattended for a whole week. When the next Friday came around and I asked myself which fragrance I wanted to wear today, I thought of Tony Iommi again. It couldn't hurt to test it again.

It slowly occurred to me that the fragrance smelled very interesting. I wouldn't want to smell like that, but it is unique and fun to smell. I don't have any other comparable fragrance in my small collection. This tropical blend smells like a vacation in the Caribbean.

The following Friday I reached for Tony Iommi again, it was the first time I wanted to wear it in public as I was invited to a party. I was already expecting a bad response, but nothing came from the people around me. I was reassured.

The next few Fridays were such that I spent the whole day looking forward to the moment when I took it out and sprayed it on, heralding the start of my well-earned weekend.

Last Friday, however, a moment had come that I was dreading. The 5ml are empty. It was just enough for a little TGIF feeling. But something was not as usual - this time there was no joy about the fragrance but a sadness setting in. In the course of the evening, I decided to buy the bottle. I really didn't want to spend any more money but there was no way around it.

I'm currently writing these lines and sincerely hope it arrives by Friday. I'm already looking forward to seeing him again!
Rarely has a fragrance made such a lasting impression on me that I have built up a personal relationship with it that goes beyond just liking it.

This fragrance may not be right for everyone. And not for every day.
But for me it's now: Friday. You. Me. Same place, same time. A well-coordinated team.

So far, this is actually the only fragrance that has changed my mind after my first impression and I am very glad that I was not yet activated for the soak at the time, otherwise I would probably (unfortunately) have sold it on after the first time

Thank you for reading.

Soy sauce overload
Yes, as the title says, that's what it smells like.
When buying the Erba Gold for my wife's birthday, it was possible to put together a sample set on the Xerjoff site, among other things I also chose the fragrance "Tony Iommi", I heard a lot of positive things, both the reviews here and generally online sounded very promising.... right, sounded, the reality looks different.

About the fragrance:

- It starts with a radical soy sauce note, accompanied by an animalic note and perhaps an expired passion fruit noticeable in the background, my wife's reaction when I sprayed it on was, and I quote, "Boah, that's a stinker!"
I didn't want to believe it at first and smelled it in panic and really tried with all my might to think away this disgusting soy note and concentrate on the passion fruit... unfortunately without success.

- The projection is powerful, which is not particularly good in this case, it still lasts despite being washed off several times and hardly changes over time, after about 6 hours a slight vanilla and musk note can be noticed, but unfortunately this is suppressed despite this terrible soy note.

Conclusion:

DO NOT BUY THIS FRAGRANCE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! (No Gate Keep) it's really bad, I'm glad it was only a sample.

After the sweet & boozy open (the passion fruit is mild), Iommi largely dries boozy-chocolatey leather w/ hints of patchouli. Fall-winter.
