the simple things
If you think of Azure Lime as an Eau de Cologne, it makes sense. By concentration, it is an eau de parfum, but by taxonomy it is an edc. Whether an edc should cost this much will be a function of your budget.

Lime is such a tight note. It is so specific and so concise. Citrus notes tend to be sharp, reading as fresh and bracing, but lime is narrower than other citrus notes. There is no lead-in and no denouement. Azure Lime takes advantage of this sharpness. The topnotes are a blast of lime and turpentine, like a face-scrunching reduction of gin and lime. The lime note (wonderfully!) doesn’t grow softer. Despite the flowers, musk and spice notes that eventually join it, the lime itself never submits.

In a classic edc, floral and spice notes broaden the chief citrus note (typically lemon or bergamot) and musks soften it. In what feels like a reversal, the lime bends the other notes to its will. The floral note (jasmine?) dries as soon as it appears and the musk note gives the lime more backbone than padding, lending a woody feel to the composition.

Azure Lime stays dry and cool from top to bottom, ending on a quiet, dusty note. A woody/spicy, cardamom/cedar scent stays attached to the lime so that even into the basenotes, the fragrance has a juniper/gin sting.

Azure Lime wears like and eau de cologne and should be splashed with abandon for full effect. It captures a very specific notion of luxury, one that I have to say I find appealing: the $10 dose of cologne. It is the anti-bling of perfumery. Forget the rare, the exotic, the over-the-top. This is the luxe of the simple done well.

Missing something...
Much is said about the Private Blend line.

Although there are many great perfumes from this line, Azure Lime disappointed me.

That is not a bad fragrance, but I think it lacks character.

It's missing something else that justifies its price, as with many Creeds.

Its opening is wonderful, with some floral and citrus notes. However, its drydown is disappointing and mediocre because it leads to a common place of summer fragrances.

The drydown is basically composed of woody notes, remaining with some floral tones, something totally harmless and boring.

It has good lasting power and projection.

Stunning fragrance. Dreadful longevity.
I’ve sprayed this on three times now. The initial spray takes all the bitterness and sharp lemon, mint and lime and it awakens the senses in such a great way! I love how it then dries down to a slightly more complicated, almost muted fruity, woody fragrance. It’s simply wonderful! I adore it. Would I own it? Not a chance….. The longevity is as bad as I’ve known a fragrance to be. There isn’t even a remnant of this left on my skin inside three hours of application. Absolutely gutting, and for the price, unforgivable. You’d have to spent your whole time walking round with the bottle or a decant just to get you through the day!

UPDATE: Still love the fragrance, had to try and persevere with it. Tried it with some moisturiser and ISO E Super….. Game changing! Stayed on my skin for 10 hours! Bottle purchased!

A beautiful fragrance
We were at the counter and wanted to smell some fragrances again. The salesperson, and we were lucky, knew his products and immediately responded to us. So it was the Beau de Jour for my husband.
But he would have been a bad salesman if he hadn't introduced me to a few. Rose and coffee was not my thing. I had a few from the private line. And then he said maybe something different, woody, fresh, suitable for spring and summer. Azure Lime. And I loved it immediately. My husband also forced me to buy it.
And this morning I was happy, the scent is fresh, woody, wonderful. It lasts 6 hours on me and I don't expect more. The price is relatively high, but Mr. Ford is not cheap, you know that. With AL you can never use too much, it's not overpowering, perfect in spring and summer.

Rightly in the hype
I found out about Tom Ford - Azure Lime through English-language perfume videos and these reviews sparked my interest, now I have to say I think the hype is justified.

It opens with a tart, tangy, almost mojito-like lime, which quickly fades and turns into a pleasant, soft lemon sorbet aroma and would therefore almost pass as gourmand for me.

H/S are of course not outstanding, typical for Tom Ford, but perfectly fine for a fresh fragrance. I and those around me perceive it for a good 7-8 hours.

I have to say, unfortunately too expensive, but simply a great summer fragrance.
