Cognac beats rum as a companion for leather
Don't we ask ourselves from time to time what the perfumer was thinking about a fragrance? Why ingredient x, why not y or why less is more? What drives leather plus rum, or like here leather plus cognac? These combinations can be found from time to time. Dark Rebel - released just a year later - is also carried by these ingredients - rum and leather, in other words. But if you can still imagine, sweetish rum might make tart leather more pleasing.

Reading mahogany, beeswax and firewood now raises questions. Beeswax on leather? Well known, everybody who owns and cares for leather shoes knows. I imagine firewood as just burned wood, could also be interesting. Mahogany well, one must not make the mistake of thinking that mahogany wood is the one. Mahogany plants can also be bushes and they form fruits for example. But it might be the same smell that exotic woods have when imported to other countries. Mostly caused by substances that are supposed to rid the wood of pests. In any case it will smell woody-burned. Sounds olfactory in theory great, purely subjective.
My first contact was then unfortunately marked by a disharmony that started right away, these notes did not really want to find each other at the beginning. Only with the time it became something. This perception is also apparent in the statements.

For a few seconds it smells like Wild Leather from Mancera, then the alcoholic clears up slightly. The cognac with the leather seems a bit harsher than if you had trusted rum. It goes back and forth at the beginning, soon the base notes play along, which at first causes irritation as a hopeless mess. Then it subsides, leather and cognac have settled in. Now it reminds me of Fan Your Flames by Nishane but without the coconut sweetness.

More and more Cognac and Leather are withdrawing, especially as the Cognac is becoming weaker, Blacks Club Leather is gaining in maturity and seriousness. It now has a strong smell of wood rubbed with beeswax which is being burnt. Not bad, but better is the finish, which reminds of billows of smoke, the remnant of the previous scene.

Well, actually I like this scent quite well, which I had not expected due to the bizarre opening.
Everyone who appreciates fragrances like Fan your Flames by Nishane, but finds the combination of alcohol and coconut too sweet and sweaty in the long run, will find what they are looking for here. Durability and sillage are not impressive. One could think where the scent is striking, unfortunately not the case. Only the name is misleading because the leather is not that distinctive here. To draw the bow to the intro: whoever thinks of Dark Rebel as a biker and pub fragrance, doesn't care for Blacks Club Leather.

Away with you, this is a club I pass on. A high class man for sure but there's no sex. I'll take a dirty sheep-herder over this blandness.
