Debating club round 2
Whenever I see just one review of a fragrance, I feel almost compelled to test out whether the fragrance in question is blowing the same horn for me or whether it is behaving in a contrary way and I have to "rush to the rescue" if my initial tasting is not too positive. Just like in a good debating society, where both sides are given the space to put forward their arguments so that they can then form their own opinions. Yes, of course, the comparison is a bit off (skin chemistry and personal preferences and all that) but somehow I have to justify my crusade for Miller Harris :)

In @Meggi's beautiful first review, Wander Through The Parks came off so semi-well, at least we both agree right at the start: it's good! I have a fresh, sour grapefruit, ah grapefruit, never mind, with a good load of pepper in my nose and would even have blindly identified basil or similar herbs. If I didn't know any better, I'd think I was smelling one of the dozen Acqua di Parma versions, it's so green and citrusy and fresh. Please don't be confused by the 'fruity' in the fragrance notes. After all, grapefruit is also a fruit. But sweet-fruity is nothing at all, at least for me.

All the MH fragrances I have tested so far are not silage monsters. Which is absolutely fine with me!

There is no sign of the yellowish, withered parkland with a hint of rotten fruit in my home. Rather a green English lawn, perfectly trimmed with nail scissors, at the edge of which someone has planted a bed of Mediterranean herbs and a few white flowers. On a wooden bench, a woman wraps herself in a white fleece blanket (it's only May, so the wind is still a bit fresh) - anyone remember the final scene in the movie 'Notting Hill'? Exactly like that! Sipping the ice-cold, home-made orange soda (the kind that was poured over my shirt at the beginning), I enjoy the play of light falling through the leaves of the trees. Oh that was something, I'm not Julia Roberts.

I don't smell fig, nor tuberose (*irks*) - let's agree on a delicate white, indefinable creamy note. Towards the end, the fragrance becomes a bit more feminine in my eyes thanks to the all-time favorite musk/cashmere duo, but it's basically a great fresh unisex perfume. When the trees turn green in April/May and the whole of nature explodes (let's ignore the stupid pollen) - the note is perfectly captured here.

Green freshies only have one glaring disadvantage: they don't usually last very well/long. Even galbanum and the musk/woody bag of tricks don't help much. After 3-4 hours I have to look for the scent on my skin, on clothes - as almost always - better. But since I like to wear this type of perfume in spring/summer anyway, I'm willing to forgive this lack of performance, as it is also wearable in warmer weather.

PS: And while we're on the subject of London park tips: I recommend Battersea Park south of the Thames. Good Omen fans will even recognize a filming location from the first season there ('the bandstand')

Holland Park
Strolling through London's parks is basically a great idea. However, they did not offer refreshment in the heat of recent times either. In the Kensington Gardens, located in the west of Hyde Park, the grass had grown in places into a yellow meadow that was more reminiscent of a dry savannah.

Holland Park, half a mile west of Hyde Park, has of course not been better in the past weeks. Of course, pictures give an impression of how beautiful it seems to be there, when sometimes something wet comes from above. Anyway, everything seemed a lot cuter. It is more relaxed and quiet anyway, obviously the area is hardly frequented by tourists - which may be due to the fact that there are neither palaces nor holy Diana memorial places placed in it. It's a pity that we literally only got to know this place at the last moment and only rudimentarily, namely on the day of our departure and under gradually beginning time pressure.

The scent is just as urgent. After spraying on, grapefruit and currants prick for my sake, followed by a (first) touch of fig. Both are quickly overgrown with wonderfully juicy, unherbaceous green. Stinging nettle is a great match - I can judge that, after all we have enough of that in the garden. The pithy, fruity opening has given way to a pleasant acidity. A successful start.

It may be logical that the refreshing nettle will soon retreat somewhat in favour of the less original fig: What English gardener would tolerate nettles? From an aromatic angle of smell this is unfortunate, because now, after a slow hour, 'Wander Through The Parks' has already become a bit mauled. The fine-pointed acid has largely fallen victim to an impression of laboratory general fruit and in general the scent loses itself in the approximate, the initially clear structure becomes blurred in the course of the morning to a diffuse fruit-green mush, which is successively underlaid with a supporting base of wood
The possibly honourable attempts by (aha - if I hadn't thought of it on my own) Violet leaf and Cashmeran to give the matter an edge only lead to a certain bitterness in the afternoon, which gives the fruit a hint of rottenness. But in the end also that of the tough mass - in this case merciful - is smeared up. I am no longer able to extract any subtleties from the now balsamic creamy puree from the fifth hour onwards. The end represents Saubermoschus.

Conclusion: Holland Park even gets a 9.0 in yellow, the scent remains a good bit underneath.

PS: The sample came from the Miller Harris store in Covent Garden. Next door are shops of Penhaligon's and Atelier Cologne. A few steps up the street and twice around the corner lies the formidable Bloom Perfumery.
