Upgrade to normal Society
The Gentleman range from Givenchy is one of my favorite designer ranges. So far, I think all the releases in this series have been successful. The normal Society was the worst of this series so far, although this "Society" concept with this great DNA already had potential. However, I found the implementation a little too loveless and the synthetics were also somewhat noticeable. When I received a sample of this Extreme with an order, I was a bit hooked. Not only has the performance been improved, but the DNA has been refined and the whole framework looks much more elegant.
The RRP of this fragrance is of course far too high at €138 per 100ml. These "niche" prices are already quite modern for new designer releases. But if you wait a few weeks, you can find these releases at acceptable prices. However, the P-L ratio is quite good for the entire Gentleman range, as some of them are already of niche quality. As I said, here you get a great upgrade to the original Society, which was already well received by many people. This one has more depth and is also much more sophisticated.
The fragrance comes in a dull cardboard box, which is not ugly. Still typically mainstream. But so be it, I'm not a packaging collector anyway. The bottle is quite attractive and feels great in the hand. The black coloring suits this fragrance quite well, as it has something mysterious about it and this DNA is not one of many. This fragrance has its rough edges and will not appeal to everyone. Nevertheless, it is rather pleasing and easy to wear.
For people who are more into niche fragrances, this fragrance is less for them. It is more of a typical designer fragrance, which is not a bad thing in my opinion. Because it is quite well made and goes in a creative direction. The fragrance is never too heavy, does not overwhelm and convinces with great sweet spice and a creative coffee note.
Right from the start, you get a lovely sweet and spicy fragrance that is nevertheless very uncomplicated and also exudes a little freshness. Not a typical citrusy freshness, but a mix of mint and sage. This duo is a great counterpoint to the sweet and spicy aura of this fragrance. The spiciness gives this fragrance this beautiful nutmeg note, which is accompanied by a great coffee note. Quite unique and pleasant if you like these notes. The narcissus is also quite perceptible and provides a slightly greenish touch. Iris is somewhat limited, especially if you are familiar with the other Gentleman fragrances. However, this slightly flowery-powdery iris is also present in the background, which has also been implemented quite elegantly. I don't notice the vetiver trio, but it could also play a role. Those who don't like vetiver will not be put off here. Vanilla is perceptible here as a sweet component and not at all gourmand. The sweetness convinces with a noble touch and becomes very woody from the base onwards. Overall, a very pleasing drydown with sweet wood.
Performance is really good and a real upgrade to the original Gentleman Society Eau de Parfum. This fragrance certainly lasts around 10 hours with 4-5 hours of really good sillage. You get noticed. Overall, a great candidate for the evening, leisure time and even for everyday wear when it's not so warm.
Overall a great upgrade. Not everyone will like this fragrance, but it is very appealing and this pleasant fragrance DNA will not have many enemies. It should be tested especially by those who liked the original. The right places have been tweaked here.
