Un hiver à Grasse
.....through the plateau of Valensol, the wind whistles from the nearby mountains and from the west down over the Dentilles, whistles through the Luberon and we seek shelter in the monastery Le Thoronet, in ice-cold thick walls, our destination almost before our eyes. With hope we think of the fragrances that Grasse, with its enchanting surroundings, gives us in winter.
Grasse lies in the early fog.
At the foot of the Falaise du Haut Montet, we are greeted by a magnificent view. The wide winter landscape. From the lower tufts of the garrigue a gentle scent of hidden lavender blossoms rises and from afar a fanning breeze, from far beyond the horizon, blows towards us the floral scent of bergamot and roses.
Winter haze over Grasse.
The light flags from the chimneys fly towards us and blend with the woods of the Maquis and the scents of the sun crystals from the cypresses to form a small, clear scent.
We still have some idea of marzipan, but maybe it's due to the season. Un Hiver à Grasse. Greetings from Papa Noêl.
We reach Grasse after 4 to 5 hours, leave the scents outside the gate, look for a warm place with a Petit Noir and a fine cognac...
...but that's another story.
