Dirty winter weather - cave time!
The view out of the window onto the streets of Berlin city center is depressing:
Dirty roads and sidewalks, poorly cleared of snow under dark layers of granulate; the day will be gray in gray again with temperatures around +1°C.
The alternative to this is to go back to bed with a good book and a pot of tea, to the sofa or to escape reality enclosed in a scented capsule!
The viscous, warm and densely enveloping, caressingly flattering vanilla fragrances are the first choice, but not a convincing one today.
But suddenly I know: I want to go back to a cave and what could be better than one of these dark, reddish-brown shimmering fragrances from Roja Dove, already in the bottle/filling.
It's a well-known fact that I really like their creations, so I rummage through my supplies and find "Musk Aoud"; a fragrance that really suits my current feeling of slightly smelly cave life.
It is well known that there is a lack of light and fresh air in these caves; existing, somewhat damp "waste heat" is stored and determines the atmosphere in the dark.
So this fragrance is not for sensitive noses or even aesthetes; it is too deep, dirty and certainly takes some getting used to.
The dark scent of a strong vanilla/musk melange and oud-soaked, coarse leather is warm and comforting, with an iridescent, citrusy flare of bergamot and lemon adding aromatic highlights.
On a woody base spiced with nutmeg and other spices, Roja's floral favorites from his rich summer flower garden in Grasse blossom in the sheltering darkness.
Here, too, I encounter - how could it be otherwise - radiant May roses, sensually ripe jasmine and the friendliness of ylang-ylang, with the flowering tendrils of the latter immediately ready for floral-scented embraces: I find a bright, cozy, warm sweater in the now resin-infused twilight, which I slip on.
Because the honeyed, golden-creamy, herbaceous labdanum with its simultaneously spicy, warm, balsamic and yet earthy-smelling cistus personality emerges as a pleasant fragrance ingredient to finally marry with the classics oakmoss, sandalwood and patchouli: What an inspiring fragrance wedding!
Yes, as with Guerlain, the classic structure of Roja fragrances is predictable:
If there it is the rarely missing "Guerlinade", here it is a standard for which I have not yet found a name.
("Rojanade" doesn't sound like it at all, even if it expresses exactly what you would expect.)
"Musk Aoud" also stands for this reliability and makes it easy for us to choose the fragrances of this brand with these recurring, so familiar building blocks.
This also applies to sillage and exceptional longevity; here, too, there are no surprises.
In the meantime, it has become a little lighter outside the window, but I will probably spend the rest of Saturday in my fragrance cave in the company of "Musk Aoud"; I can already find the teapot and book next to me.
