Explosion of freshness in the opening with (unfortunately) moderate ginger drydownI
The Symphony has one of the most beautiful LV flacons; a real feast for the eyes that comes with a handsome price tag. But what counts more is the content and this really surprised me positively - at least for the most part.
What do I mean by that and how do I perceive the Symphony?
- Well, the fragrance is supposed to be inspired by beautiful islands where the water and the sky play together in harmony. Top marketing, of course, and also suggests what kind of DNA we are dealing with here; fresh, revitalizing - and yes, promise kept!
- The fragrance starts with an incredibly beautiful grapefruit-bergamot combination, which reminds me very strongly of Le Gemme - Tygar; but I find the opening here even more invigorating, peppier and fresher. The grapefruit is given a very special nuance by the bergamot and simply seems "freshly sliced". The opening of Le Gemme - Tygar, on the other hand, is very focused on the grapefruit, also extremely well and freshly done, but this one simply tingles a little more in the nose (positive); not the pungent tingling as with Rosso Pompei
- This ingenious opening flattens out after about 15-30 minutes and you end up with a blend of grapefruit, bergamot and above all ginger. The drydown is really beautiful, but of course doesn't come close to the absolutely brilliant opening; however, it is still extremely beautiful and well-rounded. Here, too, the initial fresh ginger note then develops over several hours into a rather "bland" direction, which is still good, but at some point there is a lack of potency and the fragrance fades.
- The projection is upper mid-range; and the fragrance actually projects really quite well for a fresh scent, at least for the first few hours. In terms of longevity, I was really surprised at how long the fragrance lasted (at least 5 hours still easily perceptible, then skin-deep).
So, is the fragrance worth the money? Hm... not for me to be honest. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful fragrance with an extremely good opening and for a good time also with a good drydown. BUT: Yes, the performance would be acceptable if it weren't for the exorbitantly high price. I think that people like to make compromises when it comes to performance, especially with fresh fragrances; a Fico di Amalfi also performs terribly, but the P/L ratio (at discount prices) is reasonably acceptable, and yes, then you spray it more often. With Symphony, you really have to think about whether to treat yourself to lunch or a second spray.
... who could the fragrance be for? Hmm... There are enough LV fanboys/fangirls who could use such a beautiful bottle with such an ingenious fragrance DNA in their collection, for whom the price doesn't matter...
