A Rollercoaster of a Scent
This is a dirty animalic scent. When I first sprayed this, the leather note immediately reminded me of the smell of horses after riding them. Under that is a deep resin scent that stays all through the scent. When the smell of horses fades it slowly sweetens until it gets sweet almost like syrup, an incense sweet syrup. The dry down is like a musky powdery leather. This scent had great projection and lasted over 6 hours on my skin. Its not for everyone but it is incredibly interesting.

Bold and daring
Smells a bit like Durbano's Black Tourmaline mixed with Lutens' Serge Noire and Slumberhouse Jeke. There are some tobacco nuances here and there so Slumberhouse Jeke lovers should be happy. I detect also some kind of burnt leaves smoke, camphor and naphtalene. This is not a nice perfume - on their website they named it "challenging" and I have to fully agree with that statement. I do not recommend buying a bottle of Eldritch blind.

a tiefling warlock with hair that smolders and crackles in the sun
I only started hearing about Pineward sometime last year, but in reading over their website, I just realized Pineward is another project of the person who now runs Apoteker Tepe, which I thought disappeared a few years ago, but I guess it was sold by the original perfumer and has been purchased by this Pineward person. Considering that my favorite Apoteker Tepe perfume is The Holy Mountain, and it smells like a beardy grandmaster max-level wizard summoning the ultimate ancient mystical dragon lord of the 11th realm or whatever, and now I smell the extremely resinous potency of these Pineward fragrances, this is an acquisition which makes perfect sense. I ordered a sampler set, and for the first one, I think we’ll get into Eldritch. Which is what my middle initial stands for. Just kidding, it’s Elizabeth. Eldritch is comprised of my favorite notes, the sweet loamy decay of oakmoss, opoponax’s oaken honeyed leather, myrrh’s aromatic warmth, crushed balsamic fir needles, and peppery, tannic smoke. It’s so, so, freaking good. And now it’s the signature scent of Elizabeth Eldritch, a powerful tiefling warlock with hair that smolders and crackles in the sun, who has a passion for forbidden lore and whose best friend is a giant fire beetle.

Spicy, animalic, woody, provocative
The other latest US release from Pineward Perfumes, Eldritch, is among the most provocative and intense of the line, involving (like most of the line) pine and fir, but also leather, myrrh, patchouli, oolong tea, opoponax, smoke, and oakmoss. It’s dark, spicy, a bit animalic, slightly herbal, and almost a bit savory,

It definitely feels like pine/fir/spruce-focused than most of the line, a bit of a pleasantly Slumberhouse/Hendley-esque deviation into the dark and spicy that provides some of the resinous, campfire vibes of repeat-mentions Norne and Fume, respectively, so Eldritch should prove an interesting try for those familiar with those fragrances in particular.

Overall, it leans toward the animalic and spicy more so than resinous and smoky, and it’s a little bit less my cup of tea than some of its contemporaries, but like all things Pineward, it’s a pleasure to try and I’d recommend fashioning a sample, especially with the weather cooling down in the northern hemisphere.

Pricing for Eldritch is the standard $135/80 for 37/17ml for the line, and it is compounded at 33%, very high, like most of the line (around or just above 30%, generally).

Scent
A warm and creamy, yet gently leathery, spicy resinous-woody Winter fragrance, with a rather dark and smoky, spicy-green opening. Masculine.
