Memories of Granada in February
White Song once accompanied me on our almond blossom vacation to Granada and the surrounding area. It is a delicate fragrance and also suitable for jasmine lovers, as the jasmine is very subtly interwoven with the bitter-sweet almonds and lots of spices.
At the start, it reminds me very much of fresh, still green almonds, mixed with warm milk and the background spiciness of grated ginger. - Just the right fragrance to enjoy the pink almond blossom under a blue sky and warming rays of sunshine in Adalusia in February, which is still cold here. "Spring, lets its blue ribbon flutter through the air again, sweet, familiar scents stiffen the land full of foreboding" (Eduard Mörike) - how true!
But then it gets really cold in Granada, with temperatures below zero. At 8.30 in the morning, we walk up to the impressive Alhambra, with its magnificent lion fountain, gardens and various palaces. My breath forms clouds of mist from my mouth and I wear gloves. Few people have booked the tour at this time of day. Now White Song warms my wrists, I sniff it again and again, dreaming of a hot spiced almond milk. For me, amber has always symbolized golden light, warmth, security and is THE "golden milk".
In the evening, we follow the Darro River, down small cobbled streets, let ourselves drift, see lots of Moroccan stores and end up in various bars. There are few tourists about. A glass of red wine, tapas, guitar music, subdued lighting. White Song smells gently of white flowers blooming at night. The bitter almond note lingers and the spice market is probably just around the corner. I feel seductive, at my center and enjoy.
