Lots of Ylang and Vanilla, Not so much Rain
I suspect that the name of Miller Harris LA PLUIE has engendered plenty of dashed expectations. This perfume opens very briefly with a watery quality vaguely reminiscent of damp wood. From there, however, the composition proceeds with dispatch to a fairly strong ylang-vanilla drydown, so much so that I am reminded of Guerlain AQUA ALLEGORIA YLANG VANILLA.

All stages considered, I would have to say that this is much more of a floriental than an aquatic perfume. As a simple, not-too-sweet floriental, LA PLUIE is nice, provided that one likes ylang-ylang. A lot.

Fresh and Wet Feeling
Fresh floral with aquatic elements...
A fresh, citrus floral opening with a fruity touch...
It is very nice for spring and summer because you get a fresh and wet feeling out of this! The opening reminds me very much the GUY LARoche Fidji but the dry down becomes more flowery and grassy when the vetiver stands out of the base notes.
It has good lasting power and i give it 3.5/5.

The discreetness of rainy air
How can one describe the rain with a fragrance? I was expecting something aquatic and harsh, a synthetic blend of musks, calone, hedione and all that ingredients that seem to be inevitable when something has to do with water. But I was wrong. La Pluie got me with a kind of reminiscence to the dusty-powdery smell of Dior Homme – only softer! I am possibly wrong since no orris is listed, but yet, this was my first impression.

I only had a few spritzes at a perfume shop, and with such a discreet perfume it is hardly possible to discover all its secrets with such a short test. La Pluie seems to have a story behind it – it is a walk in the rain. Not a thunderstorm, no severe weather is being imposed on the wearer – it is a calm rain – that kind that nature gratefully welcomes as life's necessity by revealing all those tender scents that are hidden away during dry periods.

Top and middle notes are full of flowery and soft green notes – but only hints, so it is not easy guessing. La Pluie is an extremely discreet fragrance, too discreet by far for most perfume lovers. It is only for those who just want to have a very light aura of something magic around them, but nothing really noticeable or even describable to third persons.

In the base note, La Pluie seems to turn into a musky direction. Is has only a very slight, creamy soapiness, but also a little bit of animalic depth. I like that – so many soft and tender notes can get on your nerves when they are presented too offensive. This is definitely not the case here. La Pluie will appeal to a small minority of very sensitive perfume lovers.
