Fall/winter chypre!
I wrote this one off pretty quickly after the first sniff. I tried it out a few times during the spring and summer, and found it kind of weird, but in a good way. I wore it the other day on a chillier day in NYC day and was blown away by how much I was enjoying my scent bubble.
As others mentioned, Cœur Battant is like a sister to Attrape-Rêves with a similar fruity-floral-patchouli combo. But CB gives classy, but sexy older sister, while AR is the flirty, fun, still sexy, but younger sister. The oakmoss note is really what sets the two apart, and gives CB that classy, 80s/90s chypre vibe but modernized and made somehow fresh and aquatic? It’s a really interesting composition and juxtaposition of fruits, flowers, and earthy notes.
I feel like the disdain/hate that this scent gets is understandable, but also a bit unfair unless you’ve tried it in different seasons. Yes, it’s got some challenging notes (I usually HATE oakmoss), but it’s not a bad scent. IMO it’s a scent better suited for the cooler weather because all of the notes really get to shine. I recall finding it cloying in the summer, and just okay in the spring. But it’s an absolute stunner as a daytime fall/winter scent. I wore it to work the other day and could not get enough of it.
The performance is excellent, with moderate to strong projection for about 4-5 hours and stays on pretty much all day. While I really enjoy this scent, a full bottle wouldn’t make sense in my collection. However, I will continue enjoying my decant and keeping decants of it around.
