Provocation & Rebellion
If we travel 100 years into the past, we find ourselves in the 1920s. A time of the year from which a golden age has sprung, or so it is made to seem. Times when culture was given a boost in art, music and technology, like a long suppressed passion finally allowed to flourish again. A rebellion, provocative & rebellious behaviors from formerly quiet, unassuming creatures took on seemingly unimaginable forms, the "Roaring Twenties" so to speak. We can only conjecture how golden and contrasting the years really were and with what privations the probably largest part of the population of that time had to live day by day. Splendour, müsiggang and prosperity was probably granted only to a small minority. Which fragrances accompanied the fine society of that time, which materials were in demand, which food corresponded to the critical nose and palate of that time? One or two contemporary witnesses may still be able to tell us about it - but I think one thing is certain: the times in which we were not yet born always keep secrets and arouse curiosity.
J. F. Schwarzlose, a Berlin perfumery house has launched a first attempt to infuse a fresh breath of life into old and forgotten fragrances with the nose of Veronique Nyberg.
I was very excited about 20I20. I braced myself for a firecracker scent, a screamer who never gets enough, a narcotic narcissist who loves quality and is willing to pay whatever price is necessary. To polish himself up and let the world know he's worthy of attention.
Accordingly, the fragrance meets my expectations. At first it is very rebellious, strides mightily forward, thinks nothing of holding back. Rose & benzoin unite to a shrill prelude, similar to a rebellion, unbridled, without consideration. After this act is accomplished, it becomes more tamed, more insightful, more deliberate, yet the energy is not lacking. Patch & Amber calm the mind. 20I20 becomes tamer, more harmonious, elegant and mature in the dry down. Has learned that sometimes it doesn't take a big outcry to be seen. And that being seen doesn't always have to be the goal.
My interpretation of the scent:
The top notes represent the contradictions of the decade.
The heart finds reconciliation with the fact that the world does not change overnight and can experience progress. Tolerance prevails.
The base brings the realization that one's opinion must be formulated carefully, for the sake of its fragility
