Timeless legend
Yep, he's got it.
I can't help it - this fragrance gets 10 points.
Maybe it's not the fragrance I wear most often and maybe it's not my favorite.
But the reason why I'm still giving it full marks - I'm probably doing this for the first time - is because it's a timeless legend.
The strong character of the vetiver is perfectly showcased here.
The fragrance is very elegant, herbaceous-green and natural.
In the 1950s, the art of perfumery was certainly not as advanced as it is today in terms of the selection of different notes.
However, the limited selection - compared to the past - does not detract from the fragrance.
Instead, it brings out the best, without restriction.
The focus here is on naturalness and the true art of perfumery.
Jean-Paul Guerlain, the perfumer behind the fragrance, grandson of the famous Jaques Guerlain, was 22 years old at the time of its release. This fragrance was to become the signature of the brand.
He worked his way from the bottom to the top of the family business.
From bottle washer to master perfumer.
He says of himself that he already had an extraordinary olfactory memory as a child.
He liked to cite a certain penchant for romance and a certain understanding of culture as the cornerstones of a successful perfumer.
The fragrance Vetiver Eau de Toilette is masculine, distinguished, elegant.
Everything here revolves around vetiver.
The other notes are primarily there to perfectly showcase the main character.
Just like an artist whose flower has a completely different effect on a darker background than on a white sheet of paper.
Jean-Paul uses a hint of nutmeg and black pepper to achieve the desired effect and create the right contrast.
The tobacco and tonka bean with a gentle sweetness prepare the bed and complement the vetiver, giving it a little more power and depth.
The sparkling notes of bergamot, lemon and orange open the fragrance, but are also more active in the background at the beginning.
10/10, I only award this in absolutely exceptional cases.
Vetiver Eau de Toilette is a milestone in perfume history.
A timeless legend.
