I never liked ELdO....

......I don't like the whole concept of this house.....and I also don't like angular flacons.....those of ELdO I even find particularly ugly.....and then also these terrible white-red-blue stickers!!!! Ne, ne.....all nix for me.....

I also do not like orange blossom, amber, rose, mocha and certainly not marshmallows in a fragrance..!!

So first of all, DIVIN ENFANT embodies EVERYTHING I DON'T like......and almost to perfection.....

But........man would be finally no "real" EssenceVitae, if a certain curiosity would not be inherent......and since a friendly EssenceVitae has made me happy with a sample drop of this fragrance, I had to test it of course - even if with decidedly low expectations, or great fears and reservations.....

Now it sits there, the "Divine Child".....on the back of my hand.....and looks at me with big googly eyes......smiling mischievously and with a slyly foreboding expression ........so we sit there for a while and look at each other.......wordlessly..... waiting.....laughing.......and with every minute that passes, the thought increasingly creeps up on me that there might be a bit of a "demon" hiding behind that innocent expression...

How right I was!!!

Suddenly, out of nowhere, this little guy grabs me!!!! Sends a waft of devilishly beguiling scent clouds towards my nostrils......envelops me with creamy sweet passion.....

But wait!!! This "sweet" is not really a "sweet".......not the "sweet" that I - as an inveterate chyprist - indignantly reject.......it is rather a tobacco-smoked, delicately leathery "sweet".....the otherwise exceedingly loud orange blossom behaves surprisingly (and delightfully) quietly, contributing just enough to the overall work as is absolutely necessary.....no molecule MORE....

Interestingly, the scent also triggers an almost nostalgic feeling in me.....it smells warm and homey.....for security and gentleness.....for a tender, protective embrace.....for home....

However, despite all his superficially tender "innocence", there is a shaken degree of subtle eroticism inherent in him......this "Divine Child" does not seem to be at all averse to "carnal lust" ;-)......

Summa summarum it is therefore to announce that this will be the first and so far only ELdO, which may move in with me sooner or later :-)....

The divine child, enveloped in a cloud of powder
Hi guys, here I am again, testing another fragrance from a perfumer who really wants to hear my opinion on the scent. I would have tried and described the fragrance earlier, but the lid of the sample was stuck on with tape... it took me days to open the lid!!! Hey hey, well almost, but it's often quite a fiddly job to peel off the tape :D

Anyway, today we're talking about the fragrance "Divin' Enfant" by Etat Libre d'Orange, who are best known for fragrances whose names translate into German as "Köstliche Klemmschwester", "Don't get me wrong baby, I don't swallow", "Fetter Elektriker" or "Riesiger Bauchnabel"... so "Divin' Enfant", which is only called "Divine Child", is relatively harmless!

However, names don't always have to reflect what the fragrance might be like. Maybe sometimes it's deliberate, who knows? The fragrance that bears this blatant name "Don't Get Me Wrong Baby. I Don't Swallow", for example, is one of the most innocent-smelling fragrances I've ever come across, as pure as it radiates :D

That's why I can't imagine anything at all about "Divine Child" right now, at least olfactorily. But I'm about to find out! And so will you, if you have to read my impression here! :))

The fragrance:
The fragrance starts quite soft and smooth with a sweetish direction and smells quite pleasing, which is good. I smell a powdery sweetness that smells like a mix of resins, iris (there is no iris in it at all), vanilla, musk and almonds, perhaps with a hint of lipstick scent, at least when I spray it on. There are light, fruity notes in the background; a glance at the fragrance list tells me that it's peach, which I wouldn't have guessed now.
In the middle section, the fragrance is soft and warm and I can best smell a coffee scent, of course with all the other fragrance notes that I have already described, but the coffee comes through well and is actually more reminiscent of tonka beans due to the mix with the other fragrance notes.
The fragrance also smells a little tonka bean-like towards the end, mixed with vanilla, light resins, lots of musk and a great, powdery radiance. All in all, quite a beautiful and, for me, rather feminine fragrance.

The sillage and the longevity:
The sillage is strong, even after the first spray I had the feeling of being enveloped in a cloud of fragrance. I therefore also think that you will be able to smell the fragrance for a while. That's probably why the longevity is quite good at 8-10 hours.

The bottle:
The bottle is rectangular and has a cylindrical, chrome-plated lid. Normally, everything would look quite simple if it weren't for the striking, round label, half of which is stuck to one side of the bottle and the other half to the other side. At least the label makes the bottle look quite interesting.

Conclusion:
Hm, so the fragrance is very nice. Gentle, soft and fragrant. And not at all what I would have expected from an Etat Libre fragrance. This fragrance has a lot going for it: radiance, durability and, of course, as mentioned, a pleasant scent. However, you have to like powdery fragrances, as the scent is quite powdery, and perhaps not everyone likes that.

In any case, I can imagine the fragrance as a leisure fragrance as well as a night-out fragrance. The vanilla and the resinous-powdery aura give it an autumnal and wintery feel, but as it is not too heavy, I think it can also be used in spring. Only on really hot summer days should you perhaps reach for a different fragrance.

Does the name of the fragrance match the scent? So "divine child"? No... not really, because names like that are more for creative marketing than for the fragrance. Okay, sometimes some people say that the fragrance smells divine, but that's still different from a divine child.

And anyway, what I imagine divine children to be... no, I'd rather not say that now. Even though I may not have mentioned it in my comments for a while, some of you may remember that I'm into a lot of things (which I'm sure you find bizarre) like Star Wars, video games and... comics, of course. So who would most likely come to mind when I think of the Divine Child? Of course: Thor, the son of Odin... and I'm talking about the comic book character that many should know from the Marvel movies by now, not the mythological figure! See where this is about to go? :D
Tsss... There's even a perfume of Thor called "Thor Bring the Thunder (EDP)" by Marvel (you'll have to search for it yourself, it's not here in the EssenceVitae database... BECAUSE NOBODY IS INTERESTED!!!! Aaaaaaaaaaaarghgrhgrhgrgh!!!!).

Okay then,... I'll come to the end of this comment and wish you a nice evening, until next time :) And please read some comics! :D

Scent of an unfulfilled dream
Among the few of the ELDO’s that I have sampled so far, this one is a winner when it comes to the longevity and aura. A very comfortable blend of soft tobacco scent with some sweet powder and a lot of tonka - but I like it.

The opening mesmerizes me with the orange blossoms that are dipped in creamy musk nuanced with some honey. It’s a good thing for me that the sweetness does not last that long and is not overly intensive. It soon gives way to the tobacco notes, soft leather, mild rose and powder, and that’s how it continues to play far into the dry down. Even though I find it leaning towards the feminine side, it’s because of the gourmand oriental impression that I would be occasionally wearing it, when the mood would call for it.

On her skin the perfume is immensely sensual, calm, warm and intimate. It creates a desire to be near to someone, to have someone in your arms.
To a man, this might be a scent invoking the feeling of calmness, being at home, in a haven, in the only place where everything is ok - and if now it is not, it would be, by the time the sun rises. Waiting for the dawn, in someone’s embrace, that feeling could make him pull his arms to his chest, crossing them inadvertently as if he has something to hold and keep safe. Something that isn’t there, but once was. Or that is yet to be?

For real sweet tooths
Tobacco smoking and coffee drinking child dressed in leather. This child is a real sweet talker though.

I love the contrast. You have to be a sweet tooth to like this one. Nice! Sweets without the additional calories! Or at least I hope so.....

Sweet dreams of soft perfume
Slightly citrus influenced, soft creamy, slightly boozy, malty. Initially very rich and very soapy. Soft, soft, rosy flowers with vanillary, chocolatey creamy almost alcoholic nature. Maybe a distant sweet mace or nutmeg nuance. Everything in this perfume is soft and gentle. Like entering a creamy cloud and dreaming of perfume. Something is so familiar in here. A comforting clean smell but sweet. A bit like Johnsons baby powder on a newly washed babies bum, but the recently removed nappy is still over there, far away in the corner.

There is an old fashioned accord here but by that I mean well structured. The flowers have a sharper, firmer, structured edge that I cannot identify, possibly this means a sharper lavender with the rose but the sharp note is softened by proper grown up madagascan vanilla and mysore type sandalwood. It might be sweet but it isn't going into the realms of too cute.

Very pretty and soft, suitable for a young girls very first perfume. The sweetness is pleasant and not overpowering, like the sweetness in a milky drink with cocoa, nutmeg and rum but so, so gentle.
This perfume is hard to catch notes from because it moves from one to the next with alarming rapidity and ends up at creamy sandalwoody vanilla soap in less than fifteen minutes on the skin.
Unexpectedly pretty but short lived as anything identifiable, but the softer musky soapy bit lingers.

Now i've just revealed the name to myself and that is extremely funny. This is so very amusing.
(I'm blind testing a series of ELdO samples, so these reviews are from nose notes.)

opens with marshmallow and orange blossom, but when it dries down it becomes less feminine and adds the best tobacco, a hint of coffee and leather

An orange blossom mixed with coffee and cleaned up with baby wipes. Unique and comforting. Better on sunny days. One of the best ELdO frags.
