To a pipe in the rose garden
After I already had a lot of fun with the Exploration Kit from Commodity (contains a whopping 18 fragrances!), I knew that one fragrance definitely had to move in as a full bottle: Velvet! The Velvet series has me by far the most gecatcht. The curious thing is that Velvet and Velvet hardly differ from each other. The former should actually - according to the Scent Space concept of Commodity - be closer to the skin, but for me both fragrance notes and H/S of the two fragrances are identical. Velvet+, on the other hand, has nothing at all to do with the other two, since the rose is completely missing.

So much for the classification of the three Velvets to each other.

To describe this wonderful fragrance, please see me that this is my first Rezi and my nose still needs a lot of practice :) Nevertheless, I can rightly say that Velvet has absolutely captivated me, because it is an extremely exciting rose fragrance. Actually, rose scents are often either too girly or too "mature" for me...just often meh. This rose here is dirty, gritty, a bit coked up and at the same time subtle understatement. On the other hand, the soft, sweet clove with vanilla that comes across almost tobacco-like. Almond and coconut I barely smell. Rose-smoke-vanilla, I perceive.

So I can absolutely understand the comparisons with By the fireplace. But what BTF has in pepper and bang in the prelude, Velvet has in subdued florality. For me, two completely different pairs of shoes. But who likes spicy-smoky, will probably also like both.

Minus point: In terms of H / S unfortunately very weak on the chest. Have already after 4 h the need to refill. Again, no comparison to the BTF.

The fragrance is quite linear and shows no great development, with which I personally have no problem at all, on the contrary. MMn rather on the feminine spectrum.

From the occasion I like to wear it in everyday life, also fits super as Ausgehduft from autumn to spring, perhaps in a well-groomed bar. All-rounder for everything that is not high summer.

Conclusion: restrained and noble, special and entertaining. For me, an enchanting no-brainer that always goes.

Expressive Velvet
Velvet has the same mouthwatering sweetness as did Milk. They are quite similar on paper, but the sweetness soon fades into the background in Velvet and the warmth is left almost alone. However, a surprising note suddenly appears. After dry down, a hint of rose mingles with the creaminess of vanilla bean and amber. Though you know my stance on rose, I must say that it is doing something good for Velvet. Without the rose, it would feel like a copy of Milk.
That's all on paper, though, so how does it perform on skin?

On skin, Velvet opens with the same sweetness as on paper, but I also get a hint of rose already and a deep contrasting smokiness. And that's all before dry down!

After Velvet has dried off, it has a rich leather or maybe even suede undertone that dominates it. A completely different fragrance than on paper!

It leans definitely masculine and at this stage, it should be called Leather if you ask me. This fragrance reminds me of something else, some fragrance that I have reviewed not long ago. The more I try to reach for a memory of which perfume it was, the more I cannot grasp it, so let's put it vaguely - it reminds me of an Imaginary Authors perfume (maybe Whispered Myths) or a Beaufort London perfume (maybe Coeur de Noir) or even a Kerosene (maybe Broken Theories), but I digress!

Velvet is hard for me to like or dislike, I think it's beautiful, but on skin it suits autumn and winter more, whereas on paper it is a wonderful spring fragrance!

The reason why I think I love it, is because it resembles so many fragrances I like. Call me crazy, but I even get a hint of By the Fireplace just less sweet, less woody, more sour, like the smell of burnt wood.

I could smell it on me all day at work and the sillage was perfectly subtle. Velvet was a beautiful reminder of itself all day.

Commodity, you are teasing me!

Love/Hate
I have a love hate relationship with it. It has a very strong rose scent and it is balanced with a strong woodsy scent. These two scents contrast each other, creating this sensual duality. I tend to not like rose scents unless they are in the background which this is not, but this is such a deep rose that if I close my eyes it smells as if I was smelling a real rose. This is why I love and hate it because it's a very pretty rose and then the woody notes are just so good. They dance back and forth not letting one overtake the other. I keep being seduced by it and wanting to come back to it. I have been very impressed with Commodity fragrances and I'm glad they have come back after shutting down for a few years. There isn't one scent from this house that I hate, just some that I like more than others

Well, depends on the mood. Prefer the bold version of it. Especially the balance between it being spicy, woody but floral at the same time.
