The most original Soliflor.
Soliflore is a floral composition in which one note dominates.
The perfume is unusual in every respect.
A fragrance for a man, but it is floral! Lavender dominates it. This is the most perfect lavender soliflore in the history of perfumery.
It seems that if lavender dominates, there should be a cold composition. But the brilliant perfumer Ernest Daltroff managed to unite the battle between cold and warm notes in one composition. Lavender is responsible for the coolness and vanilla and tonka beans are responsible for the hot, warm, passionate accord. And these two waves colliding create such drama and interest that this composition could not go unnoticed.
This fragrance is considered a masterpiece of the 30s.
The first one that said it was for men. And now it's already 90 years old! But it is wonderful.

The Scent of Memories

This is the first perfume for men , the brightest star in the sky and in the history of perfumery. It evokes a feeling in me of old memories, my father wore Pour Un Homme, l remember my childhood memories and my father's barbershop that we were going. Pour Un Homme belongs to the past, present and future. It is passed on from generation to generation. If you like Lavender and Vanilla notes, you will like this fragrance. I really enjoy it and I love Pour Un Homme de Caron , I'm so happy that I have it in my collection.

Exciting. What does an almost 100-year-old men's fragrance smell like that I had never heard of before EssenceVitae? Supposedly the first dedicated men's fragrance ever, certainly the oldest I have ever consciously put under my nose. Only Echt Kölnisch Wasser Eau de Cologne would be even older, but 4711 is 4711 and everyone knows it. So, back to Caron. Lavender and vanilla are listed as the main notes and you can smell them. Especially the lavender. Clean, dry, natural lavender, rounded off with a dash of warm vanilla as we know it from the kitchen, so that it doesn't become too boring and mothball-like. It won't, thanks to the vanilla. Over time, the balance shifts slightly from lavender to vanilla and the fragrance takes on a certain sweetness. I can't smell the musk individually, but it seems to provide a slightly powdery texture. At the very end, a relatively subtle resinous amber note is added, which reminds me a little of incense sticks.
The comparison with the much younger Valentino Uomo Born In Roma Intense is mildly interesting. How different two fragrances with almost identical scent pyramids can be! While "vanilla" and "lavender" in Valentino are symbolic placeholders for sweet, synthetic fantasy fragrance notes that are remotely reminiscent of the same materials, in Caron you simply get exactly that: essential lavender oil (or something very close to it) and vanillin (or even real vanilla extract?).
Overall, a thoroughly relaxing fragrance. Pleasant and (surprise!) somehow old school. Despite the clean main notes, the amber base doesn't make it smooth, but downright crumpled. I don't know how it comes to mind now, but the fragrance would definitely suit Columbo.

What is old and what is new?

Pour un homme de Caron is an excellent fougère, and I recognise it for what it is. Unfortunately, the talcum notes are much too prominent for me to enjoy it. That should not stop you from trying it. You see, I have a lot older scents than Caron from1934, and I do not find them "dated". But talcum is too much a memory of my grandparents' bathroom. So anyone who does not have that history with it should try it – it's a classic.

Technically, it is an eau de toilette with less performance than many expect today, but if you, like me, rather prefer to change between "work" scents and whatever you put on for your spare time, it is quite perfect.

Parfume or medicine for the soul?

What can be said about this classic that hasn't already been said? When I ordered, I didn't know what to expect, the combination of vanilla and lavender seems strange at first, but that's why this perfume is so good and famous, they combined the "incompatible" and got something special. I put it on many times before going to bed because it relaxes, the only thing I complain about is that it lasts a short time, but this perfume is not to impress others but for you, something like medicine for your soul.
