Maybe we'll get somewhere...
Years ago, I had Blazer under my nose and didn't really warm to the scent. Somehow I couldn't get over it, as it contains almost everything I like. Ergo was kind enough to send me another sample, thank you dear.

But even years later, I still find Blazer a little difficult. The beginning is spicy, slightly citrusy and quickly turns into a green-herbaceous heart note, mint is predominant here, juniper gives a tart, fresh note. Clove simmers in the distance. This could be perfect if I didn't have a humanizing note - a note of sweat - in my nose, which makes the fragrance warmer but also slightly musty. My guess is cardamom, which is not in it according to the description. This note fades towards the base, ambergris gives a resinous warmth and the fragrance has a woody finish. In my opinion, Blazer is not very floral, more of a green-spicy chypre. I actually like the fragrance better on the second and third test, maybe I'll be in love by the fourth test, who knows..

The longevity is remarkable for a concentrated cologne, some EDPs could take a leaf out of their book, the sillage is well perceptible, but not room-filling. I can well imagine Blazer on an English country lady, tweed jacket with arm patches and peaty rubber boots, a basket of home-cut Gloria Dei and herbs from the vegetable garden in one hand, a riding crop in the other. And of course the landlord too, but sitting in front of the fireplace with Arco the German Wirehair and an old Scotch. I like the latter idea better ...

Unformally formal
Sometimes I like to experience something new, nose-wise. I have the perfect place to go for such a trip: my decant box. A place for surprises and disappointments. Luckily, mostly the former.
This time I found Anne Klein’s Blazer, a scent from 1976 so I was prepared for anything. I was not disappointed at all.
It starts out a bit sharp but the sharpness disappears very quickly and you jump into a full bowl of flowers, which sweetens more and more throughout the next hours. This is a very constant fragrance, not changing or developing a lot apart from the marigold appearing after an hour. Not my favourite note and it spoils the experience a bit but not enough to ruin it. The overall impression is a nice, warm scent staying close to your body - longevity is at least ten hours. If I should make a comparison it would be Estée Lauder’s ‘Beautiful’.
The bottle is very 70-ish. The thing I notice, though, is that I really like the font on the box and the bottle. I suppose it looked modern and untraditional at that time. Looking at the ad you would think that this is a formal scent, but I think it is both playful and relaxed.
I will definitely return to this gem again.
