Chance encounter in Hamburg
I was in Hamburg last (long) weekend, a city that I simply love, my secret place of longing - as far as you can admit as a Cologne resident. Normally always on the go in the individual districts that are not in the immediate city center (in Cologne one would say "in the Veedeln"), I was drawn to the hustle and bustle on Jungernstieg, more precisely to the Alsterhaus - because of the selection of fragrances, which is quite impressive. I spent a good 2 hours in there, spraying here and there and in the end no longer knew which way was up and which way was down. I then sprayed two not quite cheap fragrances on my right and left wrist for the shortlist and went out for a walk around the city to see how they develop on my skin. I don't normally buy more expensive fragrances at first sniff, but order something from the souk here. One of the fragrances was immediately ruled out after an hour, the other I kept sniffing thoughtfully, and when I arrived back at the Alsterhaus, it was clear: if I'm that unsure, then the answer is no. The thought of leaving empty-handed when there was so much choice here frustrated me.

But already resigned to the thought, and a little proud not to have given in to the urge, I walked across the department and towards the exit. Then I saw the Aēsop stand. I was halfway familiar with the brand as a high-priced, certainly somewhat hyped company for skin care products. I had once been given a skin cream as a gift, which I remembered well. In any case, I saw the fragrances lined up in their (for me) beautiful, simple and clean brown bottles and had to give it another go. I didn't even know the company made perfumes until then. To my shame, I have to admit that the look of the bottle is also a bit of a weak spot for me :)

In any case, I liked the look so much that I tested them all (10 or however many). And there were a few I liked, but I fell in love with Karst at first sniff, even though that has come back to haunt me many times (especially in my early days). I'm more of a passive member here, although I really do test a lot etc, but being passive I also lack the vocabulary to describe this fragrance, especially in terms of its ingredients. But what I felt was simply a maritime note (the maritime is what I love about Hamburg, among other things), a simultaneous warmth, a sense of security, an aura. Fine spiciness, very unique and I've never smelled it like this before. Not a beast, more like a mediative cloud. I know you can't do anything with it in terms of vivid imagination, but what I want to say is: something absolutely special for me, something I've been looking for for a long time, a fragrance for me and not for others. I bought it immediately (also because time was running out) and on the way home (or to the vacation apartment) I almost developed a buyer's remorse. When I got home and tested it extensively, I was relieved: it still felt right. I think I've discovered a fragrance brand with Aēsop that I'll definitely be checking out again, as there were 2 or 3 others that also appealed to me. Due to the uniform flacon design, the relatively difficult to remember names and my scatterbrainedness (not written down), I will certainly smell through them again soon - there is also an Aēsop store in Cologne. But until then, I'm going to relax and feel good in my karst clouds.

Driftwood and nothing else. Good for me but not as a perfume just aquatic, woody accord.
