Spring awakens
The winter was surprisingly hard in their stone house halfway up the volcano. The stove needed to be heated constantly to keep the cold away and the wood supply was slowly running out. They only had each other but that was enough for them.
But now it's spring. It's been getting warmer for two weeks now and the snow in front of the house has melted. The first flowers are sprouting and fill the air with a tentative scent. The lemons at the market were still green. But with the bergamots they make a wonderful juice. From it they make a tea with lavender and rosemary.
They can't go to the volcano yet, it's still snow-covered. So they descend to the hilly city above the sea. They walk through the blooming orange groves. Bees swarm from flower to flower. They take a break on a bench. Built of cedar and sandalwood in spite of time and the elements.
You're sitting in the sunshine. It's nice and warm. Do you really want them to descend further into the heat of the city? They stay sitting a little longer and look out at the sparkling sea...
----------
Zagara di Sicilia is a fresh, citric fragrance with subtle green notes. The orange blossom that gives it its name makes it quite light. Yet it is not sweet. In the base it becomes woody and the lightness fades away a bit. It is of course a classic base, but I think it's a pity, I would have wished for something different and lighter. The durability is quite ok with 4-5 hours on the skin. On textile it lasts 6-7 hours. Unisex, but in the base maybe a bit too tart and woody for some ladies.
======
There is also an Acque di Italia Zagara e Sale di Sicilia (not on perfume). That would be the ladies' version of the unisex scent. Here, the blossoms of orange and other citrus fruits are strongly in the foreground. Only slightly sweet with a small salt note. But has nothing aquatic. Green notes and wood are also present, but much more subtle than in Zagara di Sicilia. Durability and silage are also better.
